Carl Erik Willman

Carl-Erik, a former weaver at Klässbols Linneväveri for over 10 years, balanced his work with photography. He has a diverse background, from being a member of the Sävsjön camera group for almost 30 years to having lived and worked in Arvika. He has always had a passion for photography since childhood.
The Creation of Ormbunke Towel – With a strong interest in photography having been a significant part of Carl-Erik’s life, the idea of bringing the beauty of nature into the weaving grew. Ferns were something that Carl-Erik found visually appealing, both in their frosty winter versions and in their beautifully green state. He was inspired by the beauty of nature, especially ferns. He began photographing them and transformed the images into black and white abstract patterns using modern technology. It was these patterns that formed the basis for the unique Ormbunke Towel.
“Outside the window in the weaving room in the summers you could glimpse a beautiful carpet of ferns. I thought it would be possible to use them as a pattern. It also fit in with the spirit of the times with scenic inspiration. One day I looked for some beautiful ferns and took them into my garage studio at home in Värmskog. I took a large number of pictures and selected a few. I then processed them in an image processing program and created completely graphic black and white images. Based on these images I created a pattern that Urban Johansson (the third generation Johansson) then took over and continued to develop in Klässbol’s studio.” – Carl-Erik.
Thanks to Carl-Erik's unique creation, his beautiful patterns live on, and Ormbunketowel has become a big favorite among many!
