How to wash your linen

1. Soak before washing

Soak new linen in lukewarm water for 20–30 minutes. Soak larger cloths for 1–2 hours to soften the fibers properly. This reduces creases and allows more water to be used in the washing machine.

Linen textiles should be washed at 60° C, but difficult stains may require a higher temperature, but not higher than 80° C.

2. Choose the right detergent

Use color-safe detergent or detergent without bleach.

Got a stain? Treat stains as soon as possible.
We recommend using gall soap and linseed oil soap, which are effective and environmentally friendly. Feel free to try both (available in our stores and also in the online store).
See tips a little further down the page.

3. Water-rich program, not eco

Choose the program with the most water. Do not wash in eco mode. It is too water-saving. Add extra rinse. Clean the fluff filter before washing.

Wash linen separately, not with other materials

4. Centrifugation and drying

Use a maximum of 400–800 rpm, or remove the spin cycle altogether if possible. High speed breaks the fibers and impairs quality. Clear the door of fluff when the wash is finished.

Hang dry after washing. Natural and colored linen should not be dried in strong sunlight. Do not stack wet textiles on top of each other – roll them up damp before ironing or ironing. Avoid tumble drying.

5. Ironing and mangling

Hang dry after washing. Iron or iron well damp on three points. If you have a cold iron, iron several times for maximum shine. Natural-colored linen should not be dried in strong sunlight.

Stain removal

Always start treating the stain immediately, the sooner the better.

Boiling water

Pour boiling water through the stain while rubbing gently with your fingers (wear a rubber glove) or a sponge. Alternatively, dip the stain in hot boiled milk and let it soak.

Cold water

Treat with cold water and bile soap or linseed oil soap. Never use hot water as this coagulates the protein and sets the stain.

Bile soap & linseed oil soap

Our best advice for most types of stains. Effective, environmentally friendly and gentle on the fabric. We sell both products in stores and you can also find the linseed oil soap in our online store.

Special products

Curtains

Wash at 30 °C. Allow for approximately 2% shrinkage (length and width) on the first wash. Do not tumble dry.

By the meter

Are you going to reupholster furniture? Don't wash the fabric beforehand. Unwashed fabric resists stains better and keeps its shape longer.

Large tableclothes

Check the maximum weight of your washing machine. Want to be safe? Hand in the tablecloth to us and we will take care of it and make sure it is ready for the next party!

Common questions

My table runner/tablecloth is wrinkled – what do I do?

Linen is a living natural material and slight variations may occur. Dampen the runner and shape it carefully by hand, or wash and iron it slightly damp. This will give it its beautiful drape and can adorn your table for many years to come.

I have a knot in my linen product, what do I do?

Knots can occur in woven fabrics and it is a natural part of the craft when a thread runs out or is replaced during weaving. Sometimes a thread can also stick out a little from the surface.

Send us a picture and a short description and we will look into it and get back to you.

I have threads/residues sticking out of my cloth/linen product

Linen is a natural material and it is completely normal for small threads or tufts to stick out of the linen product. Gently pull them out by hand or use tweezers, that is all that is needed.

If you have any questions, you are always welcome to contact us.
