The Dalahäst was born when Jeanette Karsten was baking gingerbread cookies with her daughter Olivia when she was little. “Suddenly, a graphical “helter-skelter” pattern appeared in the dough in front of me after efficiently punching out the cookie cutter.”

The Dala Horse pattern has been a highly appreciated pattern that was born in 1995. What is special about the pattern is that each horse is unique. And since 1995, the pattern has adorned pillows, table runners, towels, and fabric by the meter. The pattern was considered groundbreaking because the figures were placed “helter-skelter”, something that had not been seen in the market before. Different color schemes were hand-printed on textiles, and the pattern also made an appearance as fabric by the meter at Svenskt Tenn. Carl Malmsten’s store also introduced larger trays with the pattern.

After the bankruptcy of Ljungbergs, Frösö Handtryck contacted Jeanette and acquired the rights to the pattern, and in 2015, the pattern was taken over by Klässbols Linen Weaving Mill. To weave the pattern, the original stencils from 1995 were scanned, and production was underway. Frösö Handtryck also expanded the range of uses for the pattern by introducing it on a variety of new products such as toiletry bags and purses, further attesting to its versatility and timeless popularity.
